Belts of Monks.

The belts are the soul of a monk, it's the direct recognition of how well your training is. Each belt have it's own requirements, mostly including the mastery of skills. A skill is considered satisfactory for a belt when your grading reaches 95%. When all of the required skills meets satisfaction, you may go to your guildmaster for your 'promotion'. Yet I do recommend all monks to strife for 100% mastery in all their skills. For it will make the difference in a life or death battle. Firstly, Let me tell you the requirements for each Belt.

White Belt :
This is given to monks upon attaining the sixth rank.
Yellow Belt :
Evaluation, Kick, Dodge.
Orange Belt :
Hand to hand, Trip, Dirt Kick, Hide.
Green Belt :
Block, Sneak, Throw, Enhanced Damage
Blue Belt :
Kung-fu, Second Attack, Nerve, Side Step
Brown Belt :
Endure, Chant, Third Attack, Ground Control, Follow Through
Purple Belt :
Fourth attack, Fast healing, Meditation
Red Belt :
Palm, Fifth Attack, Roll, Detect Hidden, Iron Will, Healing Trance
Black Belt :
All five of the schools special skills.

Now, lets discuss the best method for training for each belt. In general, there are 2 ways from which ye will improve in a skill, you can either 'Become better' at a skill or 'Learned from your mistakes' and become better. Learning from mistakes usually gives you more knowledge on the skill itself, but not all skills could be learned this way. For those that 'could' be learned from mistakes, I would recommend everyone to get DRUNK for that training.(Rum is my favorite for the drunk duration.) For getting drunk provides you with a better chance at making a foolish mistakes and hence learning from it. As for skills that 'could not' be learned by mistakes, getting drunk doesn't seems to increase or decrease the rate in learning.
Generally, it's a good idea to train multiple skills that doesn't conflict together. eg. Dirt kick, Fast healing and Dodge. Also, if you are new to this, be sure to read though the whole list for a first time.

White Belt is Given upon your achievement of rank 6th, eventhough no skills mastery is required, I do recommend all monks to train very hard ahead of time for your coming belts.

Next comes your Yellow Belt:

Kick : Could be learned from mistakes. Best learning from kicking at the third/fourth/tenth year student in the Gym. If you left the Gym early, visit the ancient tree north of Arkham. (beware of guards west of tree though.)

Evaluation : Could be learned from mistakes. Easiest of all. Just keep Evaluating at Battle. But don't forget that everytime you learn from mistakes, you stop evaluating.

Dodge : Could be learned from mistakes. One could try to tank multiple opponents in the gym, but must becareful with your health. Recall or flee before hp goes below 20%.

Next comes your Orange Belt:

Hand to Hand : Doesn't improve by mistakes. My advice is, Make good use of tenth year student in the Gym before you reach your 11th rank.

Trip : Could be learned from mistakes. Again, make use of tenth year student in the gym before leaving.

Dirt Kicking : Could be learned from mistakes. Same with trip, but requires much more time and patience. You can also try to utilize multiple opponents, when you do this, you are training with conjunction with dodge too.

Hide : Could be learned from mistakes. Just keep 'Hide' and 'Visible'. A good idea is to train in conjunction with 'Sneak'. A natural for halfings.

Next comes your Green Belt :

Block : Could be Learned from mistakes. Training time requirement is approximatley the same as dodge.

Enhanced Damage : Doesn't improve by mistakes. Usually mastered before 'Hand to Hand'. Be sure to have this trained to a good grading before leaving the gym.

Throw : Could be learned from mistakes. Most people find themselves benefiting from the ancient tree. Keep using it in combat. No need to pass satisfactory here, for you probably will later, while training for ground control.

Sneak : Could be learned from mistakes. Training method is the same as 'Hide'. Another natural for Halfings.

Next comes your Blue Belt:

Kung-Fu : Could be learned from mistakes. This is one that I never heard anyone complaining about, Most people usually have this completely mastered while training for their second attack.

Second Attack : Doesn't improve by mistakes. This one takes a while, there's really no trick as with all attacks. The Ancient tree is your friend, but don't waste too much time there, have it be trained with other skills at the tree.

Side-Step : Could be improved learned from mistakes. Just be sure to tank for your rankings and keep yourself drunk. You can also find weaker creatures to train with multiple opponents. A good idea to train it in conjunction with other skills at the Anicent tree.

Nerve : Could be learned from mistakes. This is one of the most complained skills from training. There are generally 2 ways to do this. One being: if you unfortaunately found yourself killed, get drunk and go nerve Kije until you no longer see in the dark. (be careful when you have 1 hour left of infravision.) The other way common way is to go to the heights of tarot, and get someone to get the Lion at 'strength' to fight the Winged Man at 'Lovers', you can then nerve them both til your goal is fulfilled. Be sure to be drunk & stay air-bourne from earthquakes. (pale-green potions from Shadowdale.)

Next comes your Brown Belt :

Chant and Endure : Could be learned from mistakes. These 2 should be trained since young age, and be sure to be drunk and have them activated all the time. For it's not until you get 'Harmony' that you can really train them. Train them together, for harmony is a skill that requires much mana. Remember to get drunk, good idea to train together with detect hidden, Palm and other skills that doesn't require additional mana. Training together with Iron Will is also nice idea when you have a lot of equipment that boosts mana.

Ground-Control and Follow-Through : Could be learned from mistakes. Most people train this at the ancient tree, getting drunk tend to help a great deal. Keep using them while ranking too. Not as difficult to train as any other in this Belt.

Third Attack : Doesn't improve by mistakes. This is most complained skill to acquire for this belt, most people train this with conjunction with Ground-Control and Follow-Though at the tree or while ranking. Patience is a MUST.

Next comes your Purple Belt :

Fast-Healing and Mediation : Doesn't improve by mistakes. Again, these 2 should be trained since young age, by constantly make sure you are under full health and mana. For these two skills are deactivated at full health and mana. Otherwise, you will find these 2 skills to be the most disturbing to improve. There seems to be a time correlation in the increments of improvements. I didn't obtain my purple belt until my 43rd rank all because of fast-healing.

Fourth Attack : Doesn't improve by mistakes. Try to get your fourth attack as soon as possible to train together with your third attack. The Ancient tree and guildmaster in Esthshar will give you most out of your trainings.

Your second to last belt is Red Belt :

Fifth Attack : Doesn't improve by mistakes. This skill comes either really easily, or really hard for ye. Some people has it trained before fourth is even satisfactory, some spend their LIFES trying to get it to improve. Again, try to get fifth attack as soon as possible and train together with third and fourth attacks.

Palm and Detect Hidden : Could be learned from mistakes. These 2 should always be clinged onto your training of chant and endure from before (or Iron will training.) Yet, they are probably not going to be mastered before any those 3 skills. If that became the case, train it together with your 'Fists' for Black belt. Detect hidden requires much more patiences that Palm, be warned.

Roll : Could be learned from mistakes. The easiest way is to train in the monk guild in New Thalos. The guildmaster at there throws almost every round. Get yourself some nice clothings for a good defense, get drunk and train with him there. Shouldn't be too much of a trouble.

Healing Trance : Could be learned from mistakes. Make good use of this special monk skill from early age. Use it 'A LOT'. To train, just keep drunk, getting into the trance, stand up, and repeat. Some patience required.

Iron Will : Could be learned from mistakes. This skill is similar to chant and endure in training, requires harmony. Train this skill together with Palm and detect hidden.

Finally, Your last Belt is Black Belt :

Since all 5 schools are different, I shall divide these into groups of their best way of training.

The 5 Fists : Fury/Fire/Ice/Divine/Poison :
Could be learned from mistakes. These are similar to chant and endure in training, good idea to stick detect hidden and palm together with these trainings. Also, start at young age.

Judo, Arobatics, Evasive dodge, Dance of Venom, Counter defense :
Could be learned from mistakes. These are all automatic instincts once you learn them. The tree and multiple opponents to drill on you is the way to go. A usual way is to go the the Ancient tree and have the guards at west chast you to the tree. This way you could work the tree while they help you in your training of these skills.

Pouncing Tiger, Spinning Kick, Stunning strike, Knockdown, Poison Dust, Jumpkick :
Could be learned from mistakes. These are similar to Throw and kick in training. Have to be constantly used to be trained. Should be trained together will dodging skills. The tree and guildmasters are your friend here. (Stunning strike have a timer though.)

Deathstrike, Iron Palm :
Could be learned from mistakes. These could be only used in the beginning of a fight. The guildmaster in Esthshar will help you with this, for he's totally unaffected by deathstrike and 'largely' unaffected by Iron Palm. Also, he's not agressive, so after each time you hit and flee, you can come back and do it again. Also, keep using these skills in live combat.

Open Claw fighting, Dragon Chant, Protection Heat/Cold :
Could be learned from mistakes. Again, similar to chant and endure and should be started at young age. Later training with harmony should be attached with Detect hidden and Palm. Of these that does not require mana, should be trained in conjunction with chant, iron will, endure and the fists.

Escape :
Could be learned from mistakes. This unique Mantis skill should be used in all times. I haven't ever heard any complains about difficulties in mastering this skill. For it's one of the most practical skill to have.

Sixth Attack :
Doesn't improve from mistakes. Similar to all other attacks. This being one of the hardest to master skill of the snake. Requires a lot of training, train in conjunction with all other skills that haven't been mastered yet.

Counter :
Could be learned from mistakes. This skill is not all that bad to train with despite it could could be used when the enemy strikes first. Go to New Thalos Monk guild, get the guildmaster to track after you and then just keep going in and out. This is the best way to master it.

Chi Attack :
Could be learned from mistakes. This skill, unlike many others, could be used on oneself, which greatly assists a crane monk in getting controlled injury for practising fast healing. Could be used in Battle, but it does require quite a bit of mana. Patience IS required.
